Lil Helper – REVIEW

Sometimes I wish I had a clone… often times I find myself feeding Thom with one hand, snuggling Lily with the other and petting Jonah with my feet while folding laundry with my teeth… Ok the laundry part is not real because I don’t do laundry!

But really, parents… it’s a juggling act right.

So we need a little help every now and then.

Have you every propped up your babies bottle while he’s feeding? I sometimes prop it with a blanket or a small stuffed animal just to have a free hand.

Lil Helper to the rescue!

Lil Helper is a BPA free baby bottle holder. Created by a multi-tasking Dad, Li’l helper was designed to complement a baby’s natural gripping instinct making it simple for them to grab on to.

Thoms has really enjoyed using the Lil Helper. He loves the little rattle at the end and since he has JUST started grabbing onto things, he’s kinda loving holding onto his bottle. Almost proud!

I don’t let him have it all the time because he is really young and I like to hold him while he feeds but when I’m cooking or playing with Lily and I have Thom nearby, I set his bottle on the Lil Helper and he is perfectly happy being with us and I have both hands free to play with Lily… or fold laundry..or eat.. or just be!

The Lil Helper is also great while I stroll around the mall during this bitter bitter BITTAH cold few months in New York.

The silicone handles make gripping easy for Thoms little tiny hands and little rattles on the edges keep him entertained. You can toss this in your bag and use it at restaurants, parks, anywhere really. Just keep an eye on the kiddo at all times. We have a whole plethera of baby bottles all different sizes and they all fit in this contraption!

One big thing to note – Thom still spazzes out from time to time, his 4 month self doesn’t have full control over his limbs yet. The Lil helper is very light and we sometimes give it to him without the bottle just for him to grip and shake.. occasionally it bonks his head but no harm done. it’s so light that it doesn’t hurt him.

This is a parent MUST HAVE you guys. It really helps me multi task and it’s one of those… ‘why didn’t I think of that’ items. So glad this came by my desk to review!

Nine Naturals – Natural products to use during pregnancy and beyond – REVIEW

When I was pregnant I was soooo very careful about what products I used on my skin. The skin, being the largest organ, absorbs everything. And sometimes we forget this. From the clothes we wear to the lotion we slather on … we need to pay attention to what touches our skin… especially when pregnant.

Now that I am nursing the little MOTO I still pay attention to what bath products I use. Shampoos and conditioners and lotions with high toxins all can be so NO BUENO for the little babe in the bellie or nursing.

I also like that the scents ofNine Naturals are very subtle so during those morning sickness days when everything makes you gag… you can handle this.

Nine Naturals formulations are 100% plant-based. No use of Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Petrochemicals, DEA, Synthetic Fragrances, or Artificial Preservatives. All of the ingredients are pre-screened for health and safety during pregnancy and while nursing.

Nine Naturals uses premium ingredients, which include moroccan argan oil, macadamia seed oil, and cupuaçu butter, nurture hair and skin to keep women radiant through pregnancy and beyond. all of the hair products are pH balanced to be safe for, protect and prolong color-treated hair.

WummelBox – REVIEW

You know all those monthly subscriptions that you can belong to where they send you new makeup every month or new home goods every month… well now there is one just for kids.
WummelBox sends your kids monthly arts and crafts straight to your door… that will inspire your little !

I was invited to attend a launch event in Brooklyn last month for Wummelbox. It was held at the Sugar Shop… a quaint little candy store right in the heart of Cobble Hill. My little candy girl Lilypie was in heaven… I mean… Crafts and Candy.. it’s a win!

Every month you receive a box with 3 projects. It includes everything you need… to create your projects.

.The products are all naturals and the company really tries to stay away from using plastic products. Each craft kit has an indicator which tells you the level of difficulty. Lily needed help on her crafts..and I was only too happy to help out and spend time creating with her.

sample_box_3_1-17130f3fe493ad01495e5f2d92b62106A monthly box of craft showing up for your child!! How fun!

Happy Crafting everyone!

Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail – Review

These days…there are a lot of poop explosions going on in this house. The ONE MONTH old wonder definitely makes an impressive amount of poopies!

We have two changing stations … one upstairs in the nursery and one downstairs in the bathroom.

The one upstairs is lucky enough to have the Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail that eliminates the funky odors from the many many MANY diaper changes on the daily.

The other night I changed the MOTO’s diaper 5 times between 10pm and 6am. 5 times! WOWZA!

Every nursery MUST HAVE a diaper pail…it’s essential!

I hope my review helps you decide.

The Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail is a great choice.

Picture this:

2am – Baby has a poop explosion – you run to the changing station – start the diaper changing process – gross sticky poop everywhere!- diaper pail next to changing station – one handedly you open the pail – drop sticky smelly diaper in the opening – diaper falls into  bag – close the pail – bag with poopy diaper automatically seals – AND a little bit of Arm and Hammer baking soda is dispensed into the pail to eliminate the odor – finish diaper change – clean diaper- happy baby – try to go back to bed. (that was a joke!)

The Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail is  easy to use, sturdy and smell free. You can fit 25 diapers in the pail before you need to empty this out. I have been able to fit more than 25… the MOTO is only one month and his diapers are small and I fold them up nice and tight before disposing. The patented self sealing system works wonders… just drop the diaper and close the lid and the pail seals and locks away the smellies! I don’t have any stinks sneaking out even when the pail is left open.

The baking soda compartment is easily refillable with Arm and Hammer baking soda that you can buy anywhere. No need to purchase a special refill… so money saved there. The pail comes fully assembled…  just open the box, pull out the pail and it’s ready to be used! Bag and baking soda compartment full and already set up.

Munchkin Diaper pail

Overall, I like the Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail… it works really well for us. If you are in the market for one… I recommend it!

*I was given a Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail for purposes of this review. All opinions are honest and my own. If I do not like a product that’s given to me for review, I don’t write about it*

Avent Baby Bottles – Review

As Matt and I jump into all things baby… bottles are a HUGE must have item. The type of bottle, the form, the suction… I could go on!

We have settled on 2 brands of bottles. The first – AVENT.

Reasons I like AVENT baby bottles:

  1. Easy Natural Latch on nipple is an organic way for baby to go back and forth between bottle and breast-feeding.
  2. The nipple itself has comfort “petals” on the inside which are soft and flexible for comfort when baby is feeding.
  3. Wide bottles neck makes it really easy for cleaning and filling.
  4. The curvy shape of the bottles is easy for mom and baby to hold.
  5. It has an advanced Anti-Colic system with this cool twin valve design.
  6. Bottles grow with your baby…just switch out the tops.
  7. Of course it’s BPA free and all that goodness.

You can buy these bottles at most stores that sell baby products.

So there ya have it.

So much baby gear coming to this house these days… I hope to share my choices with you in the coming weeks.

* I was not paid for this post. The bottles were a gift from my Sis-In-Law*

Travel with your dog in boutique hotel style!

Listen up all you giant breed owners…and no I don’t mean the 40 pounders or the 60 pounders I’m talking about all you fine folk with the giants… you know your average 100 pound, 120 pounds, 180 pounders.

Matt and I love to travel. We love to take our dog when we travel. Before Jonah our St Bernard, we had Lincoln Duncan our 140 pound newfoundland. We took him everywhere! And finding a hotel was always a challenge. MOST hotels capped the limit of the dogs weight at 40 pounds. 40 POUNDS? His head weighs that much! So after looking around and testing many many MANY places we found our travel go to!

I have found the best place for you and your giant beast without having to sacrifice style or comfort while on the road!

The PALOMAR HOTEL – Part of the Kimpton Family has been an awesome spot for us this summer. Not only did they welcome my giant beast with loving arms, they also have some fab amenities that are the icing on the top!

  • Dogs of all sizes welcome – and when we called them to say, “our beast STOPS traffic and sometimes causes such a paparazzi scene it’s embarrassing so please put us by the closest exit on the first floor so we don’t have to deal with the elevator” They were more than happy to accommodate and when we arrived.. the staff just loved on him! and gave him treats and oohed and ahhed over him and it made me feel so proud!
  • Kids get a complementary bedtime call to room service where they can order cookies and milk. That arrived promptly. And Lily remembered this from our last stay and looked forward to her nightly treat!
  • Every evening there is complimentary Wine Hour… all the guests staying in the hotel come down for this and you get to meet some fab peeps! that’s a win! I did not indulge this time around being with child and all!
  • The rooms are luxurious, large and spacious and the tubs are sparkling clean… did I tell you everything was CLEAN! yes clean!
  • Staff is SUPER sweet! and the bellman helped us out so much with parking and Jonah and everything!
  • If you don’t have a pet…no worries… you can get a goldfish for your room to keep you company.

Now Kimpton Hotels don’t JUST cater to pets, we first found the PALOMAR HOTEL – part of the Kimpton family – last year when we travelled to Washington DC without the beast. We had no idea about their pet policy but rather picked them because of their fab location near Dupont Circle in DC and their snazzy decor and their high recommendations. Lily loved her Godlfish and her bedtime cookies and milk and Matt and I looved the FREE wine happy hour!

So there ya have it Giant Dog owners, no need to sacrifice your sense of travel style when bringing along the four-legged giant. There is a boutique hotel with your name on it waiting for you and your beast!

* I was not paid for nor prompted to write this post . I am merely sharing this because I love my giant Jonah dog and looove that this hotel caters to his massive size! *

Land of Nod – ready for Spring!

Yesterday I headed to the Land of NOD Media Preview Event in NYC to check out all the goodness for Spring.

We are fans of Land of Nod so loving all their new stuff for Spring was not a stretch by any means!

I love the Land of Nod sheets… whether it’s Organic or 100% Cotton all their sheets and towels are perfect for little ones. With no chemicals that will irritate your childs skin. Lily has sensitive skin and I love pure materials!

I loved the new colors and prints.

The best part about the Spring Line are the cool accessories! I absolutely love the mix of texture and whimsy! Look at the above image and check out this ultra awesome nursery! Get a look at that rocker… great lines and the colors are so trendy!  And how about that “lightbulb” lamp! loves it! I need it for my office!

Notice the two storage boxes at the foot of the bed. Super cute! and made from a plastic weaving technique. I want these for my office as well!

I LOVE this glossy blue girls bed! And those vintage inspired mirrors hanging on the wall are seriously cute!

This Pirate themed bedding is the perfect for your little swashbuckler!

The whole collection is super whimsical which is the perfect thing for your little monkeys! From the artistsry to the product, I feel that Land of Nod does not disappoint and strives to inspire and stand out from the mass kiddie design crowd!

I spy a little wise owl looking at me!

If you have never been to The Land of Nod you are missing out.. if you have… check out the new spring goods!

While I was there, I did get the scoop from the fab ladies of Land of Nod… contain your excitement now… there MIGHT…just might be a NY store coming in the next few years! Fingers crossed.

But in the mean time… go check em out at LAND OF NOD!

*New York Mom was not paid for this post. This is an editorial inclusion. We were given a fab gift bag in case you want to know! *

Parsons Dance at the Joyce

The Parson’s Dance Company is at the Joyce  until Jan 22 and you MUST go see this!

I have been a fan of David Parson and have participated in his summer workshop in the past.  His work is strong with sublte simple complexities using repetitive patterns and fantastic partnering. His signature pieces ‘Envelope” and “Caught” are forever embedded in my brain.

Tuesday night marked the world premiere of David Parson’s latest work… “Round the World”. This work was nothing short of simply stunning. The choreography visually reflected a theme and variation of circles with the dancers bringing tremendous breath and true artistry to capture the honesty of the work.

ROUND MY WORLD - Photo by Krista Bonura - Dancers: Ian Spring, Melissa Ullom

Round the World invites the audience into this mesmerizing place where the music and movement weave through space with the dancers entwining through one antoher and finding rythmn in rising , falling and soaring across the stage. Parsons eye for design on stage is apparent in Round the World. The dancers easily travel through intricate patterns that is such a joy to watch. One can easily get lost in the beauty and hypnotic nature of this piece.

Here is David Parsons talking about the work.

The program also included the Parsons classic CAUGHT. Strobe lights and theatre trickery are no match for the incredible movement and athleticism of the performer and make the perfect cocktail for one amazing piece!  The fab dancer, Eric Bourne, seems to be dancing on air!  I have seen this work several times in the past and have enjoyed it just as much every time. The ladies sitting next to me at the theatre had never seen any of David Parsons’ work and were LOVING every single moment of CAUGHT. I think I enjoyed it even more listening to them say, “That’s amazing, amazing, wow, amazing” through the entire piece.

While all the dancers were stunning… the one that commands the stage is newcomer Elena D’Amario. With her stunning presence and distinct style, she is a delight. Pictured below- center.

Photo by Krista Bonura Dancers: Ian Spring, Melissa Ullom, Steven Vaughn, Elena D’Amario, Eric Bourne, Sarah Braverman

The evening also included , A Stray’s Lullaby – collaborative work of choreographer Katarzyna Skarpetowska and composer Kenji Bunch. This work, for 4 dancers, explored the journey of 4 characters yearning for something… that something was portaryed by the cliche –light from upstage right.  I felt this work was lacking a complete idea. There were bits and pieces of some great concepts but they never quiet seemed to come together. The movement was a bound release but I’m not sure if that was the choreography of classic lines or the dancers interpretation of the movement. There however is no denying the talent of the dancers on stage and this in the end is what I enjoyed most about the piece.

The parsons company is that the Joyce until Jan 22 with a fab children’s program at 2pm this Saturday.( Tomorrow). I’m taking Lily and can’t wait to get her reaction when she sees “Envelope” and “Caught” for the first time!

Put this on you “To-Do’ list everyone …Parsons Dance  will not disappoint.

Lets go back to school with CROCS!

Thank you to Crocs for sponsoring this blog post. Please click here to learn more about Crocs’ new Back to School line. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Oh My Goodness Gracious!!! We are at the end of summer over here and Lily heads back to school in one week!!! When did summer slip away so fast!

Lily is thrilled about being a 1st grader. She feels grown up, her grade is a number now and not a huge long word

( AKA – K I N D E R G A R T E N )

Matt and I  been excited about taking her back to school shopping. It’s great to hear her input. When we all go shopping together I have loved observing Lily come into her own sense of style and trying to figure out her sense of self.

If you have a 6.5 year old, you know that they grow like little sprouts… overnight! And my Lily is no exception. She goes through clothes pretty quick and I can never figure out her correct size. For example I just discovered the size 6X – that’s for the kids who are in between a size 6 and 7… and I have been buying size 7 which is waaay to big for Lily. So many rules with back to shopping for this age range!

Here is my Back to School Shopping game plan:

  • First sort through your kids clothes and see what fits. ( Lily loves this part, she gets to put on a mini fashion show)
  • Donate what does not fit to charity or pass it down to a friend
NEXT – Shopping
  • I spread the back the school shopping out over a whole month.
  • I usually buy clothes on sale for Lily. She outgrows it so fast! ( Although there is the occassional full price indulge!)
  • Make a list of what she needs. Up here in New York I think about the fall and winter season before buying. Don’t buy summer clearance items for the school year, you won’t get much wear out of it.  ( *tip – I buy summer clearance clothes for next summer)
  • Shoes are a whole new ball game!
  • I look for arch support and durability when purchasing shoes. Arch support is key! Especially for these developmental ages. Arch support helps with proper back alignment and posture and helps correct pronation or supination of the foot.
This is where CROCS come in – Lily has the CROCS Mary Janes which take her from Summer right into fall and then again Spring. We love them and yes they do have arch support!
  • The Crocs Back to School kids’ line are school-approved on the outside (because they’re close-toed and close-heeled), but have the same comfort in the inside
  • 13 new styles for boys and girls from K-8
I love these for Lily:
