C H A R L I E || Charlotte Nandita || Our sweet little Charlie was born Feb 20, 2018, at 12:19 AM. This is after a grueling 12-hour labor. Like her siblings… she too was just perfectly comfortable being home (in the belly) and relaxing. Due to the severity of this flu season, kids under the age of 14 are not allowed on the maternity floor, so the kids haven’t been able to see her in person and are eagerly waiting for her to come home. I can’t wait for them to meet her. Our little family feels so fulfilled with our newest addition. || About a Girl Named Charlie ||
My labor was induced because she wasn’t going anywhere. We checked into the hospital at 8 AM on Monday, Feb 19 and the Pitocin was given around 10ish. Labor started around noon and it wasn’t until 10 pm that we started pushing. The pushing was nothing, even though I felt the contractions at the end… the pushing I could handle. The needles – they couldn’t find a vein – me freaking out and acting like a total wimp – that was the traumatic part for me. But in the end… she came out safe and happy!
Thomas’s delivery was pretty traumatic, he pooped before he came out, didn’t breathe for a while, I was pushing for about 4 – 5 hours, too many stitches for me to make sense of it… it was bad news bears. The room was full of doctors monitoring me and Thomas.
This time it was Matt, the nurse, my doc and THAT’S IT! The nursery nurse came in at the very end. So, Matt got a front row seat to the action. It must be traumatic for a spouse watching the delivery. It’s not pretty, I’m sure.
We immediately did skin to skin and she latched on perfectly… immediately. If you followed along for Thomas’s delivery you might remember that I had THE WORST time trying to breastfeed. It took us 2.5 months but I really wanted to breastfeed him… we bottle fed him as well. When/if we moms can make it happen, I think FED is best for the baby! No matter breastfed or bottlefed… FED is best! Charlie latched on instantly and has been feeding really well. We did have to give her formula to get her sugar levels up and it worked.
Charlotte Nandita – is named after our family. Charlotte and Charlie are both family names and Nandita is my sister’s name… who also happens to be one of my most favorite people on this planet. All the kids have family names and we love this small ode to family ties. Charlotte Nandita…is named after strong, passionate, stubborn and adventurous people. Off she goes!
Thanks for all the sweet texts, calls, and messages and thanks for celebrating and welcoming our sweet Charlie into this crazy world.
Notice the fist… she came out ready to change the world!
