My Top Picks from The New York Baby Show

New York Baby Show

The annual New York Baby Show was held last weekend in NYC. This 2-day baby expo offers products, seminars and services for expecting and new parents. Everything from doulas to doctors, photographers, stroller companies and organic baby products are showcased for 2 full days. Navigating the world of baby gear is daunting and often time parents end up with too much gear and not enough space. The New York Baby Show had expert tips from all corners of the baby advice world to help parents  be informed about the latest products on the market and make decisions to fit them and their new babes!

The Bump New York Baby Show

While walking the floor and meeting the companies and brands was fun and all, my fave part was getting glamed up in the Momtrends Lounge with Nicole and her team. The Momtrends Lounge offered complimentary babysitting and the ever awesome Glam Squad. Nails, hair, makeup… all done by the fab team from The Glam Squad.

Momtrends

I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite picks from the New York Baby show – the latest and greatest on the market!

Check out this great video that I did with TTPM for my full coverage of the New York Baby Show.

One of my favorites and most overlooked Baby Must Have items is a camera. Let me talk you through my reasoning… most parents have a smart phone – like me- and use this for taking photos all the time. When Thomas was born, I upgraded my old camera to a fancy DSLR… why… to take better pictures of my sweet babe. Brilliant idea… a lot of parents do this. For some parents, this is the time they ever even buy a great camera. Canon was at the New York Baby Show sharing tips on how to take fab photos of your babe with one of my favorite photogs – Karilyn Sanders Photography.

Canon The New York Baby Show

Canon has a whole range of cameras that have wifi capability, filters for your pics and low light capability so those sleeping baby pictures come out perfect without waking up your babe.

New York Baby Show Canon

The fanciest of stroller at the expo was not even at the booth… it was this German stroller that this fancy man was pushing his babe in. Lovezzzz! The New York Baby Show

There is SOOO much that overwhelms parents in the baby gear world.. so feel free to drop me an email if you ever need some tips! newyorkmom1 {at} gmail dot com

6 Favorite Toddler Beds

As you know Thomas has escaped the crib. We’re on night 4 of a toddler bed and I have to say it’s been going surprisingly well. He’s been sleeping in his bed all night and this morning he walked all the way down the hall to my bedroom and woke me up. Of course we have taken all the necessary precautions which by the way… i have lots to tell you.
But I wanted to share the important stuff first. A bed. Most cribs transition into a toddler bed which makes it easy on your wallet and decor.
Some of these beds, included in this round-up,  are not cribs but strictly toddler beds and some keep extending into a twin bed. Welp… as you can see I am not a ‘ themed’ bed sorta mama, so you won’t find any car or Thomas the train beds in this round-up.

here we go…

Strolling in Style with the Britax Affinity Stroller – Review + {Giveaway}

IMG_0259

So as you know narrowing down a stroller for your babe is a pretty daunting task. Don’t fret! I can help! I review strollers and baby gear for a living.. totally my world!

10387460_10204518606785647_3479337636816229862_n

Today we are discussing the Britax Affinity stroller… I have to say that of all the strollers we have in the garage right now.. and that’s about 8 brands… the Britax Affinity is Matt’s favorite. It’s portable, it’s easy to move around, it’s easy to travel with and it’s a smooth ride. Daddy approved you guys!

I was invited to the launch of the Britax Affinity stroller months ago and knew that this was a new fashionable direction for Britax. The Affinity is a higher price point than Britax’s other strollers, putting this in the luxury stroller market, this is noticeable from the first glance. The sleek, clean frame can be customized with 3 different frame colors and 6 color packs to choose. We choose the black frame with the deep blue color pack. I love this look.

We’ve had this stroller all summer and it’s been our go to. We even took it on an airplane to florida. While it is heavier than an umbrella stroller, this was the perfect ride for Thomas. Our long days in florida out and about with our family… roaming the numerous outdoor malls was a bit exhausting for Little Man Thomas! This stroller and its soft padding and generous canopy and suspension wheels all made for a very cozy snooze. Also I have totally folded this stroller up while standing on the steps of the subway, put Thomas on my hip, diaper bag across my body and stroller on my other arm and walked up and down those steps. Totally fine. It’s not lightweight but it’s not heavy by any means.

So let’s get started with this stroller, There is so much to share, I’ll try to make it easy for you!

IMG_1095IMG_1076

  • The entire seat is rear or forward facing. Having a rear facing seat option when baby is in those first months is so essential to bonding. Thomas used to just look at me and laugh and smile the entire time I was strolling him around. Even these days, I put his rear facing when I’m trying to get him to nap.IMG_1091
  • Click n Go built-in adapter system works with BRITAX CHAPERONE and B-SAFE infant car seats and bassinet. But a travel system which is sold separately  can be used with most infant car seats.

  • The back tires are air-filled pneumatic tires and the front have an adjustable suspension. So basically a pretty smooth ride.
  • A nice generous storage basket allows for storing whatever you need for the day.
  • The brakes are one of my favorite features. No more scuffing your shoes with this system. Just a tap of the foot either to stop or release the stroller works!
  • The adjustable footrest has been really great to give Thomas a comfy seat with no more dangling legs.

IMG_1080

  • The leather-like trim that goes across the handle bar and the bar which goes across the seat is a nice luxury touch which definitely stands out.

photo (50)

  • There is a viewing flap on the canopy. Now I found this to be very small compared to other strollers with canopy flaps. Also the glare off the material is too much most times so you can’t really see your babe.
  • But a mesh zippered opening allows for lots of ventilation and has proven essential to us during our long days at the Bronx Zoo.

photo (51)

  • Did I mention that the canopy is very generous, The babe is totally covered under there.
  • The fancy leather trim like handle bars move up and down and the handle articulates front to back to fit all heights. even shorties like me.
  • A 5 point seat harness, seat recline and roomy seat interior all make it a comfy cozy cocoon for the babe!
  • Also washing the insert is easy peasy!photo (53)

Alright so there ya have it. I like the Britax Affinity. I think it’s a ton of bang for your buck . It has fashion, function, comfort and longevity.

THERE’S MORE… If you are interested in purchasing this stroller I have the BEST deal for you!

Lil Helper – REVIEW

Sometimes I wish I had a clone… often times I find myself feeding Thom with one hand, snuggling Lily with the other and petting Jonah with my feet while folding laundry with my teeth… Ok the laundry part is not real because I don’t do laundry!

But really, parents… it’s a juggling act right.

So we need a little help every now and then.

20130409-093849.jpg

Have you every propped up your babies bottle while he’s feeding? I sometimes prop it with a blanket or a small stuffed animal just to have a free hand.

Lil Helper to the rescue!

Lil Helper is a BPA free baby bottle holder. Created by a multi-tasking Dad, Li’l helper was designed to complement a baby’s natural gripping instinct making it simple for them to grab on to.

20130409-093904.jpg

Thoms has really enjoyed using the Lil Helper. He loves the little rattle at the end and since he has JUST started grabbing onto things, he’s kinda loving holding onto his bottle. Almost proud!

20130409-093914.jpg

I don’t let him have it all the time because he is really young and I like to hold him while he feeds but when I’m cooking or playing with Lily and I have Thom nearby, I set his bottle on the Lil Helper and he is perfectly happy being with us and I have both hands free to play with Lily… or fold laundry..or eat.. or just be!

20130409-093923.jpg

The Lil Helper is also great while I stroll around the mall during this bitter bitter BITTAH cold few months in New York.

The silicone handles make gripping easy for Thoms little tiny hands and little rattles on the edges keep him entertained. You can toss this in your bag and use it at restaurants, parks, anywhere really. Just keep an eye on the kiddo at all times. We have a whole plethera of baby bottles all different sizes and they all fit in this contraption!

One big thing to note – Thom still spazzes out from time to time, his 4 month self doesn’t have full control over his limbs yet. The Lil helper is very light and we sometimes give it to him without the bottle just for him to grip and shake.. occasionally it bonks his head but no harm done. it’s so light that it doesn’t hurt him.

This is a parent MUST HAVE you guys. It really helps me multi task and it’s one of those… ‘why didn’t I think of that’ items. So glad this came by my desk to review!

Lifefactory – Glass bottles for babes

Last year we replaced all the plastics in our kitchen with glass. All those plastic storage pieces were tossed and replaced with glass storage containers.

While plastics have come a LOOONG way from even one year ago, I still prefer glass …when given the choice.

Along comes Lifefactory – BPA free, glass and silicone sleeved bottles for babies.

lifefactory_4oz_oceanbaby_lg_matte_870_1110_matte_392_500

The super strong thermal shock resistant borosilicate glass can go from freezer to piping hot water without shattering. I like the silicone sleeves because they make holding the bottle easier… when Thom gets older and can hold his own bottle this will be great for him.

Lifefactory

The nipple that comes with the bottle is nice except I wanted the milk flow to be slower so I switched it out with a “slow flow” nipple and it’s works great. You can also purchase an interchangeable ‘sippy cup’ attachment for future use and  a simple lid so you can use the bottle as a snack jar for on the go…after your kid has outgrown the bottle stage.

Washing is easy and every time I’m out in public I always get compliments and questions about the bottle. I also love the modern and clean design of the  whole line of Lifefactory products.

These bottles run about $14.99 a piece and up. Replacement glass bottles are $4. Totally worth it!

Visit LIFEFACTORY for additional deets.
