create

I have not had a show in a long while and my rehearsals are scarce! I need to CREATE!!!

Lately, my frustration with my lack of time to make dances has been taking over my mind and really putting me in a depresso mood. I have not been able to have any dance oriented thing happen for me in a while and this has been taking it’s toll. There is a need for me to create something…anything!!!

So I brought out my sewing machine, which I purchased at Target 4 yrs ago and have never used, and I brought out some old clothes that I was giving away or throwing away and started to create!

This i what came out while watching the world series last night.

a little something for Lily

Now don’t laugh, it’s pretty decent for someone who does not know how to sew. Lily saw this little guy this morning and loved him! Jonah, my St. Bernard pup, loved him as well.

I think i am going to make a family of them and give them out to the little people in my life.

The process of making something just ignites such an energy in me, I can’t explain it. Just watching something being made from …nothing.

Sewing was certainly relaxing and calming and certainly fed my creative soul, without the coordination it takes to make a dance… renting space, finding a chunk of time in the day…etc.

Gotta get my dance on soon though!

shadow

This crappy week is turning out to be beautiful! I am amused watching the shadow of the leaves on the tree outside my window dance on the blinds.

My friend is in labor. good for her. she’s been saying, “I just want it out!” for a few days now.

My trusty dog is laying by my feet, Lily is in school and I can have a quiet moment to gather my thoughts and start my marathon day!

I will be attempting another form of printing today. I can’t decide between tissue paper printing or freezer paper printing.

Leaf Printing

“Leaves are falling, leaves are falling, on the ground, on the ground, run and try and catch them, run and try and catch them, off the ground ,off the ground.”

Leaves
leaves caught at their peak.

My obsession with ink and printing has seeped into Lily. We spent a few hours collecting leaves and then printing them onto paper. I have used a brayer in the past but with a four year old… fingers and palms work best.

Here’s how we did this project:

You will need:

stamp pad (color of your choice),

Leaves,

paper or surface you want to print on. (Cardboard from some old boxes work really well)

*Find some leaves

* place leaf on stamp pad and gently press with your finger

* place inked side down onto your paper or printing surface

* again, press lightly with fingers and palms

* make sure you press every corner

* small hands work best!

* don’t forget the stem

* slowly lift off the surface

* tada!  Leaf Print!

We also glittered some of the leaves but the color just doesn’t show.

You can make cards and print on fabrics and do all sorts of things with this technique.

Enjoy! let me know if any of you try this project.

rethunked

I had to take a break from this bloggin biznaz. It was overtaking my mind and my body and especially my time. Also, the pressure to have my blog be the best was eating into my psych.

So after taking a break and reevalutaing what I would write about, I have decided to give it another go. No competition.

We have a pretty eventful life over here and I figured I would keep my blog up for Lily. It would be fun for her to read all the things she did and all the adventures she had while growing up.

This will hopefully motivate my lazy self to write more often and create more often.

Jonah, Allison(lily's sis) and Lily.

List

My friend Amanda said, “make a list girl”.

So i am doing just that. This statement, simple as it sounds, is actually a beast of a burden.

Making a list will help you organize your life, it will make you happy because it’s one step closer to gettng things done, it can help you feel accomplished and it can make you look at your priorities.

Three days later…

I’m STILL making my list.

No joke.

My list is long and madenning.

My list has all the things I want to do, need to do, and should really be doing.

There’s a lot.

Take a bath so I can scrub the bottoms of my feet, to learning how to sew to be recession proof, and to make time for my sad little lonely blog.

I’ll take a pic of my list and give you an idea of what’s ahead!

dog

I have a new dog.

He is amazing.

I lost the love of my life, my doggie Lincoln in March of 2009. I am really heartbroken about this. Painfully heartbroken.

Lily has been talking about a dog for a while and we had started talking about thinking about looking for a dog.

We knew we wanted a  giant breed. Newf, St. Bernard, Mastiff…etc

Matt gets a call last Thursday, from a shelter. They had a dog that needed a home. The dog was still at the family’s home. So we visit that evening. 9 month old st. Bernard. Due to family situational changes they could not care for the dog. The dog was neutered, shots given, stapled…all of it.

We fell in love and he arrived to live with us the very next day!

Meet Jonah!

Heeeeere's Jonah!
Heeeeere's Jonah!

Jonah is amazing. He has brought a new energy to our lives. The power of animals can never ever be underestimated.

So I am changing the name of my blog because we no longer are three.

Lily says..

I am convinced that some of the best kid quotes come from my kid!

We were playing a game…I would say, ” I love you more than all the leaves on the tree”

Lily: I love you more than the worms in the dirt.

Me: I love you more than all the stars.

This goes on for a while.

Suddenly, Lily jumps up and with her eyes really big and body puffed and full of energy she exclaims…

“I love you more than everything, all the things… nothing left”

...and pose!
...and pose!

What a sweatpea!

Madonna on Letterman!!!

Watching Madge on Letterman.

Loves me the cat eyes. You can still see the wrinkles and “age” under that major makeup.

I have heard she uses MAC. I looooves MAC. I was told from  bare essentuals sales person that MAC was only used by dragqueens and It would clog my pores and it has such terrible associations.

WHA!!!

Then call me  Hedda Lettuce and slap it on me!

I have tried all kinds of makeup. Been hired to do make for celebs and weddings and shows..blah blah. I LOOVEZ me some Mac attack.

So back to madonna. She looks old. But DAAAAAAyum! she is bangin. i love her body and her dress. Simple black is always the winner. Her classic look and her makeup.

Continue to be you and reinvent Madge. We looves ya!

Even ‘good things’ could be better

So the deets on the Martha Stewart show.

Biz stone: founder of twitter: martha asks him: why does Twitter not have spell check: do you feel rich: Biz stone says, technology is a natural part of nature. i kinda think she was flirting with him. Also, she was totally name dropping.

Chris Hughes: Facebook founder: martha asks him about him and his ‘little friends”. ha: kid looks like he is 15: he’s actually 25.

David Pogue: NYTimes: very funny: very cool and witty: he was my fav. Had the most to say. gone are the days of email. it’s all about direct and urgent messaging.

Disco music blasting between guest segments, YES!!!  I loves it.

Here are all the things that were not very TECHy for a TECH show.

*It’s a TECH show right? You asked everyone to bring their computers, blackberries right? You asked us to log on and Tweet and Crackbook right? So did not realize we would do JUST that. So be prepared and don’t let your wifi cramp! yea, so that happened. We were asked to stop tweeting and FBing.

*You would think that for a TECH show we would get some funky gadget to try out right? wrong! we got books. Two books about twitter.ugh. Come on Omnimedia! get with the program OPRAH would NEVER had let this happen. It’s a TECH show.

*We should have at the VERY least received a goody bag with MARTHA CRAFT goodies. Some glitter for the masses. Gimme the glitter Martha!

* I would have: talked about the new phones out there and how they can really help wih all the faboshness of our society, or maybe I would had a Tweet off.Yea that’s a contest to see who can tweet fastest. have an online contest and watch your audience go into a frenzy trying to answer questions online while being in the audience for you show. Show off the techyness of those in the room. I looked around, there were all kinds of people with all kinds of fun gadgets. Ah well. Maybe if I were on the creative team we would have rocked it.
