Guess who looooves Lipstick just as much as me! The little MOTO. So when I was trying to get some beauty blogger worthy shots of me and my Clinique Crayola Chubby Stick lips… he wanted in.
Of course we are the cutest beauty duo ever! and this is what you get for encouraging beauty reviews on this little blog!
Have you seen these new Crayola Chubby Sticks from Clinique? They are the best. they look like chunky crayons which doesn’t help when you have a 4Yo who wants all your stuff and then finds these ‘ crayons’ and colors all over his face!
Clinique has a very limited edition set of 8 colors in the Crayola Chubby Sticks. The color goes on like a lip balm with a tint that is bold and stays on. I said tint.. which means you can create an intensity by simply applying it in layers or just once.
The Chubby Sticks come in super fun colors for all skin types! – Brick Red, Wild Strawberry, Mango Tango, Melon, Mauvelous, Pink Sherbert, Fuzzy Wuzzy, Red Violet,
The shea butter helps soothe these chapped lips form this never ending winter up here in New York! and my little helper, Thomas, loved the shades as well.
These Clinique Crayola Chubby Sticks are perfect to toss in your bag and throw on a bit of color when you need a quick bit of a touch up in your day! And are such a fun must-have for your beach bag this summer!
Swing by CLINIQUE to find out more and where to purchase!
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I’ve rounded up a few of my most favorite shades of red lipsticks for you to rock! A costume designer – from my days on stage- once told me… “Honey just throw on a red and the world is yours for the taking”. Truer words have never been spoken… these days, I thrown on a red lip when cleaning, when wanting to feel put together, or just for fun.
Having brown/olive skin, it’s really hard to find a good shade of red. But not to worry my little brown girl peeps… There is no shortage of reds in my makeup bag which means I have weeded out the ones that don’t work to hand-pick my select few.
Some of these … like the Stilla and NARS shades are cult classics and have a fierce following. So if you see them in stock… snatch ’em up and send me one! I had to go to 3 Sephoras in Manhattan to replenish the Cruella from Nars! Finally got it!
These colors are great for all skin colors and are actually perfect shades of red, with just the right amount of orange but not too much of the pink.
Bobbie Brown – Burnt Red 9
MAC – Liptensity – Fireworks
Palladio – High Intensity Herbal Lip Balm – Red Rush
As Lily gets older, parenting takes on a new strategy. Instead of slaying dragons and knock-knock jokes, we are now handling mood swings, cell phones privileges and navigating social lives. One thing that I have enjoyed with the tween-dom is getting my hair done. Lily is really into discovering new ways of braiding hair or curling it and I am only too happy to be her ever ready hair model.
Lily is in middle school and any parent of a child in middle school will tell you that these years are full of navigating social norms, mood swings and how one looks! I try to encourage positive body image and hair image any way I can and one of the most simplest and effective ways is through words. I encourage Lily to let her hair just flow naturally. She has thick brown hair that straightens out really well and holds a great curl so her hair issues are nowhere near as major as my curly frizzy hair!
Hair can be a pretty defining part of our overall image. While I never thought much about my hair, except the occasional complaint about frizz, it wasn’t until my pregnancy that I realized the impact my hair had on my overall identity.
My long thick black hair lost most of its volume during pregnancy and it wasn’t until almost 3 years later that it started to grow back to its full thickness. The hair came back in full force…along with a few straggly greys that stick straight up from my scalp. I mean… not fun!
Lily and I both share the same adventurous spirit and our hair certainly reflects that… and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am excited to be part of Dove’s #LoveYourHair campaign to celebrate all types of hair. What do you love about your hair? I encourage you… dear reader… to make your own 3 second video of you and your daughter and tell us why you Love Your Hair! Be sure to use #LoveYourHair and use this link to make your own quick snap! http://bit.ly/2gHGfgi

Mothers Day is coming up in a few weeks and I thought I would share a few of my favorite picks for gifting your mom, sister, friend… or yourself this year.
It’s tough to find time to go out and roam around a mall and shop for gifts. When Thomas was little, i used to spend a lot of time, in the winter months especially, roaming through the mall while he napped in his stroller. These days his little legs and inquisitive mind don’t want to still! So lazy mall strolls are out. I do love saving money and going through the sales racks… thrill of the hunt ya know!
But don’t cry for me Argentina… I’ve been swinging by SHOP AT HOME for coupon code and earning cash back at all of my fave spots.
From stores like JCpenny, Target to even my fave… Madewell. I found everything I needed. And for you… dear reader, I’ve picked a few of my favorites for gifting your mama this year!
Target Sleeveless Jumpsuit – Jumpsuits are THE thing right now. These are tres chic and also double as PJ’s. ha! I’m kidding. I love a good classic black jumpsuit this spring and summer.
NARS Blush Contour Lip Palette – This NARS kit has it all, in one sleek palette. It includes bronzer and a highlighting blush for all your contouring needs.
Madewell Bracelet – Imagine my utter excitement when i found my favorite store Madewell on Shop at Home. I could do a whole feature on everything you should buy at Madewell right now… with coupons and cash back from Shop at Home!
LOWES birdhouse– I love birdhouses and think they make the sweetest mothers day gift. This one from Lowes is so unique and welcoming of all the blue jays and chickadees in your backyard!
Swedish Hasbeen Debutant Cross Strap Sandals– These are my all time favorite. I think every gal, especially once you become a mama, should have a pair in their closet. These comfy shoes make everyday errands or trips to the park feel a bit fancy while still being comfortable. These come in all sorts of wonderful colors.

I am a firm believer that all a gal needs to look put together is some concealer, lip gloss and mascara. These days with Thomas teething and not sleeping and having low-grade fevers because of his teething… my daily beauty routine is taking a backseat.
But the mascara… never leave home without your mascara girls. Mascara gives your eyes a pop and makes you look awake and the rest of your face will be tricked into thinking you got all the rest you needed …and that no toddler was up at 2am wanting to play choo choo!
Dousing your eyes with mascara is also a stage and theatre make up thing. I used to wear sheets of mascara or big time falsies to make my face stand out. And in this era of selfies… these tips of the stage come in handy.
BUUUTT who has the patience for falsies… and with a toddler in tow, it’s a clown show waiting to happen.
So basically these are instant extensions + falsies + everything, all in one very quick application. This is a 2 piece kit. One is a mascara and the other is a wand with fiber extensions. Don’t be scared by the fiber extension part. It’s basically just another tube with fibers that you put on like mascara.
So I have naturally long lashes… but i really did notice a significant boost in my lashes. The best part is that this washes right off when you wash your face. The only negative i have… and it’s not even that big a deal really… is that the fiber might sprinkle onto your clothing when you are applying them. I learned this the wrong way when a white button down was sprinkled with black extension lash fibers. But once I started to use this product more and dust off the fibers a little before applying, they didn’t dust off.
The kids have been pretty stir crazy these past few weeks. Snow days are great and all, but when it’s solid sheets of ice outside… that’s not as much fun. It’s been too cold to do anything outside. So I packed everyone up and we headed up to the Poconos for a weekend getaway. We were invited by the MOMs and Vaseline for a weekend at Woodloch Pines Resort. Woodloch is a quick 2 hour drive from New York City. Lily and Thomas slept the whole way there and back… i enjoyed some time listening to NPR while driving. A luxury I can’t seem to find time for most days.
Woodloch was everything we needed to get our winter sillies out. After an extravagant welcome lunch, we suited up for a day of outdoor snow activities. Lily immediately hit the ‘Extreme” snowtube hill. Thomas and I stayed at the bottom of the hill and cheered everyone along.
Next we went over to the frozen pond for some ice skating. Again, Thomas couldn’t skate but walked on the ice, fell lots of times, tried to catch fish under the frozen ice, screamed out SHARK a few times… you know 2-year-old shenanigans. The pond was large so there was plenty of room for the kids to skate around and play ice hockey.
Dinner was a lot of fun because a whole parade of legendary characters greeted us and roamed through the dining rooms. I mean Elvis and Batman were in the same building folks! The evening was full of resort type entertainment, a concert hall had a magician who made a bird disappear, a show-tunes filled show followed complete with sequins ball gowns and step touch dance choreography. The kids and I went to the arcade and tree forest to go climbing and ride bumper cars.
Once we got back to the room, which overlooked the lake, Lily and I stayed up, chatted and sat on our balcony to take in the moonlight reflecting off the frozen lake. We talked and laughed like we were both old souls. A family of deer walked through the snow leaving small footprints and we watched them … silent.
This was probably my most memorable moment of the entire trip. This magical relaxed time with my tween who most days wants nothing to do with me.
The next day was just as busy with pony rides, arts and crafts, more snow tubing and ice skating, bumper cars… etc.
There is a lot for kids to do at Woodloch. Archery, shooting, ice hockey, race cars, bumper cars, tubing and lots of indoor activities as well. No shortage of activities.
The rooms were clean and large. Our room had 2 large rooms – a living room with 2 pull out couches, bedroom with 2 queen beds, 2 bathrooms, deep bathtub, a large closet for storing all your goods and a balcony. A small kitchen area was also included.
The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly and I felt that everywhere we went the kids were safe. The staff seemed to remember everyone and was always looking out for the kids. Woodloch is the quintessential family travel destination for family reunions and getaways . I made it a point to give Lily a bit of freedom, so I let her go tubing without me and meet me back at the craft room where Thomas was busy schmoozing on the ladies. Lily did really well with her new-found independence and honestly… it was the vibe of the resort that let me set her free.Of course now she thinks I’m going to set her free on the streets of NYC… so no that’s not going to happen!
The cold 19 degree weather definitely plays a number on your skin… and barreling down those snow tubing hills gave Lily’s face a bit of a Winter Burn. But thankfully this trip was sponsored by Vaseline Brand and we had plenty of goodies to try out during our stay. I’ve been using Vaseline petroleum jelly on my hands but had never used their Intensive Skin Care line. This company has been around for 140 years… and their products certainly helped our wind burned faces.
If you are looking for a quick little getaway this winter, I highly recommend Woodloch Pines Resort. Dreaming of a summer time trip!
Tis the season for gift giving and I am super excited to announce the FIRST ever official real- dealHoliday Gift Guide from The New York Mom.
How exciting you guys!
I have tons of tips and suggestions and ideas and all sorts of fun goodies coming up for the next few weeks. Gifts for kids, for moms, for dads, techy gifts, foodie gifts, gifts for young, gifts for old… i got you covered!
You guys! I have extensions in ma haaair! Bamboo earrings, at least two pair…
Last week I headed over to the Paul Labreque salon on the Upper East Side to get my hair did. Mama got a whole new look girls!
The invite said… Extensions! and while I was totally hesitant, i figured.. why not! I’m in!
But these were not woven in extensions, these were everyday, everygal, no fuss extensions!
Secret Extensions are temporary hair extensions which really bring the wow factor. As you can see from these before and after pics… it’s pretty fancy.
*This Post is Sponsored by Secret Extensions*
While extensions are not my cup of tea… I have no time for any sort of maintenance other than looking decent and running out the door or trying to mask the spit-up or drool or whatever nasty leftover thing lands on me from these kidlets… Secret Extensions was easy enough … even for me. and best part… it’s only $40 per strand.I used two hair pieces to layer and get an ombre effect.
Secret Extensions have an elastic headband which you just slip onto your head. A minute of pulling your real hair through and primping is all your need to blend the Secret Extensions into your hair. This takes all of 1 minute! The hair is synthetic but high quality so it does hold a curl. To release the curl, simply lay it out for a few hours.
The big question is: since the hair isn’t woven in or attached with a comb or clips… DOES IT STAY IN?
Answer: Yes! I wore it for an entire evening of playing in the playground, dinner, walks around Brooklyn eating ice cream… and it totally stayed on. BUT… when we started our silly dance party… the elastic started to slip. Maybe when you go to the club, you should add a few bobby pins to hold them in. But for a date night or just a regular ole Tuesday… this works! Think holiday dinner party or office party or night out with the girls. This is the easiest way to look fab and feel fancy at a great price!
After Thomas was born a whole farm of grey hairs started cultivating on my head. All in the front too. These grey are more like a silver because when they catch the sunlight they shine sooo pretty and remind my of my daily aging! Eck. not a good look.
Here’s what – I wash my hair every other day-ish. so in those two weeks ( 15 days) I’ve washed my hair about 6 times using all 4 of the Color Assure System products. My hair felt awesome, soft and fluffy and smelled great, the hair color held but It was grey hairs and not a whole head. Not sure how different that is. I will say this though, I used all 4 products in the System – Nexxus Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer, Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Shampoo, Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Conditioner and Color Assure Glossing Tonic and the end result has been great!
So this stuff works like this:
The NEW Nexxus Color Assure System is the first oil-infused color care system by Nexxus, and it provides 2X longer color protection* Look for the Nexxus Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer, Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Shampoo, Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Conditioner and Color Assure Glossing Tonic in mass retailers, select drugstores and supermarkets nationwide.
The NEW Nexxus Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer is a pre-treatment to shield hair in the shower. It helps to repel water, so color stays longer and more vibrant. The Pre-Wash Primer is sulfate-free and infused with a blend of clear oils, including almond, coconut and argan oil. Almond oil is known to lock in moisture, nourish hair and reduce breakage. Coconut oil is known to provide softness and elasticity. Argan oil is known to improve shine and vibrancy. White Orchid Extract is known to provide moisture and works to seal and protect hair by repelling water and keep it from entering the core.
It’s almost time for summertime travel and I am giddy with excitement over the thought of packing up and going someplace and hit the refresh button.
My friend Nicole and her fab team over at Momtrends hosted a swank event this week in NYC and introduced us to what is trending in travel this season.
1. Britax and BOB strollers have you covered with car seats and jogging strollers for all your warm weather shenanigans. That jogging stroller has a bike style brake which I am swooning over!
2. My Favorite! Trunki introduced us to the UBER cute waterproof backpacks for kids. Paddlepacks! These are ideal for anytime of the year but summer camp and summer beach days are pretty ideal without having water sneak into this bag.
3. Miracle Suit – this is the suit for us mamas! I have Miracle Suit jeans and cannot tell you how much I love them. After Thomas was born, this jean helped keep my core strong and supported when my core was pretty much mush. The swimsuits are awesome and have a built-in support system which tucks and sucks everything in. perfect for those endless days at the town pool chasing kiddies!
4. Ice Cream from Adirondack Creamery – we all love ice-cream! All natural, farm fresh and local!
5. Butterfly Studio curled our hair and gave us fab tips on summer hair and braids!
HOT TIP – always use products like a salt spray or hair spray when working with your hair.
6. Luxury Travel Mom – Kim-Marie who is a TOTAL friend in my head gave us all tips to travel in style!
HOT TIP – try group tours. They aren’t as ” only old people do it” as you think. Kim-Marie recommends Austin Lehman Adventures.
Those gals over at MOMTRENDS sure know how to throw an event! Stop by their site for your dose of trends on the daily!
