Summer Jammin – KidzBop

The folks over at KIDZ BOP  sent Lily a couple CD’s this summer. And she has not stopped playing them. If you are not familiar with Kidz Bopand you have a kid, you might be missing out big time.

Lily likes listening to pop music, although her taste is more like Matt’s – jazz and classical and world sounds. She likes “music with no words” so she can make up words and interpret the music the way she wants to. I find this pretty awesome for a 6 year old.

This past year in Gym class she was exposed to a lot popular radio music and If I have to ” put my hands up in the air” one more time.. I’m gonna say ‘EEEYO” ( tee- Hee)

A lot our favorite artists have lyrics that are not quite appropriate for a 6 year old. So in comes Kidz Bop to save the day! The lyrics are clean and the songs are all sung by talented mini versions of the original artists.

Lily loves it + I love that I don’t have to explain a lyric midway through a song = we all win.

The new Kidz Bop came out July 19th and you should pick it up!  With songs like Lady Gaga-  Born this Way and Adele- Rolling in the deep, It’s a great album for you + kiddo!

*I was not paid for this review. The album was sent to me for review by the company and I liked the album and wanted to share my thoughts. All opinions are mine and that of the THE NEW YORK MOM fam! *

SMURFS and Build a Bear and NEIL PATRICK HARRIS! OH My!

The Smurfs movie is in Theatres today, July 29. This week Lily and I were invited to the Build-A-Bear on 5th avenue to meet Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays and of course to build a Smurf at Build-A-Bear
.

The movie includes stars like – Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria, Jayma Mays, Tim Gunn ( project runway), Jeff Foxworthy, Wolfgang Puck, Alan Cumming, George Lopez,Fred Armison, Kenan Thompson, Tom Collichio, Michael Musto, Liz Smith, Joan Rivers, Sofia Vergara,  Jonathan Winters as the voice Papa Smurf and Katy Perry as the voice of Smurfette!

Summary of the film:  When the evil wizard Gargamel ( Frank Azaria)  chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours — in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

This film is filled with adventures and shenanigans in the Big Apple.

SMURFS is in Theatres TODAY!!! So go catch it and report back. I have more coming up … especially my interview with Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays. so keep it where ya got it!

Papier Mache Heads

I am seriously obsessed with animals heads as decor. I don’t hunt, I love animals but yet the nostalgic and style aesthetic of a good ole animal head provides a narrative to any room that can’t be duplicated.

But I”m not a killer – I’m a lover , and fortunately papier mache animal heads are soooo the rage right now. You can’t go to any design site or store in Brooklyn that doesn’t have a papier mache animal head staring at you.

I found these fab ones at WEST ELM this week. www.westelm.com .

They are really reasonably priced ( $19 – $149) and when paired with that classic Nate Berkus Grey color… it’s a dream design motif!

My goal is to de-clutter  my home this summer and the pay off will be ..Papier Mache Animal Heads!!!

Now…If only I had a full time crew to keep my home looking editorial ready at any given second!

HeatWave

It’s waaaaaay too hot in New York this week. Our 150 year old historic home has no central air and we are melting… MELTING!!!!!Lily’s been hanging around in her underwear eating popsicles and watermelon all day.

I have been drinking ice cold barley water to hydrate. Lily loves lemon barley water and does not like to dilute it! YUCK! If you can find Barley water in your local grocer, I recommend it. It’s a fun little liquid treat brought to us by the brits!

And Jonah… well, he’s just camped out in front of the fan. I’ve made it a point to give him a good brushing with the Furminator every morning and the beast seems to shed enough hair to cover a whole dog!

Stay cool all!

Plush toys with attitude

I came across Fluffy Friends on FAB.com – my latest online obsession!

These stuffed animals come with a side serving of ATTITUDE!

FluffyFriends are the brainchild of Chicago’s OhNo!Doom, an artist collective made up of illustrators, animators and designers.

These mean toys have plastic teeth and pack a mean chomp! so watch out.

I love these for Lily. Ok Fine I want one for myself!  I also love that these plush toys are the product of an artist collective. You can also purchase the drawings of each plush toy on the website. –> http://ohnodoom.bigcartel.com/products

Enjoy!

* I was not compensated in any way for this post. I just love these Fluffy’s!*

Best Friend

*Scene:  Lily and I are making dinner

Me: Lily, if I were your age, I would want to be your best friend.

Lily: Why?

Me: Because you are so fun and interesting.

Me: Lily, when you get older can we be best friends?

Lily: No Way!

Me: Why?

Lily: Because you’re my mommy.

Me: What’s the difference between a mommy and a best friend?

Lily: A mommy is just much MORE ( hand flare) than a best friend.

FIRST Swim Meet

Lily had her FIRST Swim Meet this evening. It was the cutest thing ever.

Lily when you get older and read this — You were such a Champ. You had such heart and your entire team was rooting for you. Your coaches love you and your crazy lizard eye goggles have become your brand!

Today you won 2nd PLACE in the backstroke. This was quite the event, when you see the video of your back stroke race you will see that you started later than anyone else +  did not realize it was the back stroke +  didn’t know how to push off the platform + you just kicked your little legs as fast as you could +  all your coaches cheered you on +  you won 2nd place! out of 6.

In the Freestyle Race you won 5th out of 6th… again legs were kicking and you were awesome! You did not care, you had a blast!

I love you Lily, I love your tenacity and your fearlessness. I love you and I love that you just enjoy your life!

And congrats on the big win!
